Dimitrios Vernezos was born in Prokopi, Evia. He was blessed to have as his father the blessed Father Ioannis Vernezos, who served for 54 consecutive years at the Holy Shrine of Saint John the Russian.
It was he who motivated the six-year-old Demetrios to paint his first iconography, Saint Theodosius.
From the age of 15 to 21 he regularly visited Mount Athos where he took his first steps in the art of iconography. At the age of 22 he graduated from the Higher Ecclesiastical School and then studied Theology at the Theological School of Athens. Ultimately, however, the art of iconography won him over…
This path of spiritual search through iconography that began on Mount Athos continues to this day... Self-taught, with Panselinos as his imaginary teacher and guide (photo 3), having painted dozens of churches all over the world, from Canada and America to distant Siberia, and having now become renowned in his field, he continues to this day to study and immerse himself passionately in this art as a young student.
In recent years he has had the honor of painting icons for the church of Saint John the Russian in Prokopi, Evia, to which he dedicates most of his time.
He lives in Prokopi with his wife and two children and maintains his workshop 50 meters from the church.
